HIV/AIDS Treatment and Services

North Country HealthCare offers a number of HIV/AIDS-related services including prevention, testing and education, as well as ongoing support, care and resources for those living with HIV/AIDS.

HIV Care Clinics

HIV Care Clinics are available at all North Country locations. Patients can receive primary care and HIV care from a certified HIV care specialist. The specialists also helps patients coordinate care with other healthcare providers. The clinic offers in-person or telemedicine appointments. Similar to Skype, telemedicine enables patients outside Flagstaff to see providers without traveling to the Flagstaff facility.

HIV/AIDS Ryan White Part A and B Programs

The Ryan White Program provides support and emergency services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Coconino and Mohave Counties and the Navajo and Hopi Tribal Nations (if you live outside these counties we can direct you to the Ryan White contractor serving your area). Applicants must be uninsured or underinsured and make less than 400% of the federal poverty level. Some of the program’s services include case management; outpatient, dental and behavioral care; financial assistance with co-pays, medication and transportation to HIV-related appointments; nutrition assistance; emergency financial assistance and assistance accessing other programs and services based on client needs.

Interested in joining our peer-led support group? Enrolled in the Ryan White Program? Ask your Case Manager for more information about our support groups. For confidentiality reasons, the group is limited to Ryan White participants.

ADAP Assist

AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) provides access to medications for HIV and HIV-related medical conditions to low-income individuals who have limited or no medication coverage. ADAP Assist provides additional coverage. Once enrolled in ADAP, the state enrolls eligible clients in ADAP Assist.

HIV Testing and Education

Rapid HIV screening and HIV prevention classes are offered through the Health Choice Integrated Care Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program. The program offers rapid HIV screening, classes on HIV risk and safe sex practices and distributes educational materials and condoms at locations throughout Coconino, Yavapai, and Mohave counties. In the event of a positive test result, North Country makes referrals for confirmatory testing and links newly diagnosed patients to immediate care.

North Country also offers routine HIV and STD screening to patients in primary care. The CDC recommends all patients from  ages 13 to 64 be tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime and at-risk individuals should be tested more regularly. In addition, it is recommended pregnant women should be tested for HIV. Ask your North Country provider to be tested at your next visit.  For patients who are uninsured, additional funding may be available through the Ryan White Program.

Substance Use Disorder Programs

North Country HealthCare’s Substance Use Disorder Programs offer the following services to any interested community member:

• Free Naloxone and Naloxone Training, available to individuals or organizations
• Free HIV and Hepatitis C rapid testing, as well as education about HIV and Hepatitis C treatment and prevention. Rapid testing is available to individuals or community partner organizations. Patients with reactive rapid test results will be linked to appropriate medical care.
• Information on harm reduction and linkage to community resources.
• Education on prescription opioid misuse risks and prevention.
• Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) education and linkage to MAT at North Country HealthCare.

Dental Services and Delta Dental

Delta Dental offers dental coverage to people living with HIV/AIDS and who are enrolled in Ryan White. Delta Dental covers two teeth cleanings per year and offers additional coverage for approved procedures up to $1,500 per year. All major procedures require pre-approval by Delta Dental. Your Ryan White case manager can help with this process. Many North Country locations offer dental care, and all dental care locations are contracted with Delta Dental.

Scheduling Appointments

If you are already seeing one of our providers for HIV care or would like to begin care, call the location nearest you to make an appointment.

Ryan White Case Management services can help you manage your HIV and meet the following goals:

• Take your medication regularly
• Get labs drawn every 3 to 6 months
• Participate/be proactive about your care
• Find a provider with whom you are comfortable
• Maintain good communication with your doctor
• Eat nutritiously
• Exercise regularly
• If you smoke, quit smoking
• Avoid recreational drugs
• Get enough sleep
• Wash your hands regularly
• Be screened regularly for other infections:

• • TB
  • Syphilis
  • Colon cancer
  • Breast, cervical and anal cancer
  • Other STDs if you are sexually active

• Attend to your mental health
• Keep a health journal to track your medications, symptoms, mental health, etc.
• Create personal goals and meet them
