North Country HealthCare’s new Program Eligibility Tool is a free resource to help the community find out what assistance programs they may qualify for. North Country HealthCare just launched its new program eligibility tool, which allows anyone to easily pre-screen their eligibility for assistance programs offered by North Country HealthCare and various state and federal programs. North Country HealthCare Addresses Doctor Shortage in Northern AZ

Seven ATSU-SOMA students graduated from medical school last May. Right now Arizona needs an additional 605 primary care physicians to address its shortage of health professionals, according to the 2019 State Health Assessment, released last month by the Arizona Department of Health Services. In fact, Arizona is ranked 38th in the nation in the number of primary care providers per 100,000 population. Not having access to a primary care provider makes routine check-ups and ongoing care difficult to obtain, and has a negative impact on the quality of life of Arizona’s most vulnerable communities. $750K Included in State Budget for North Country HealthCare Graduate Medical Education

Residents will be trained at North Country HealthCare’s Flagstaff – 4th Street location, as well as throughout northern Arizona. North Country HealthCare learned last Tuesday that Arizona senators included $750K in the state budget to help fund North Country HealthCare’s family medicine residency program. Recruitment for its inaugural class will begin this summer, with the first four residents beginning the program in July 2020. Funding from the state is essential for the initiation of the residency program, which has limited resources due to its unique nature as a community health center-based program. Including graduate medical education in the state budget would create more healthcare jobs in AZ. North Country HealthCare is disappointed to learn today, after insiders leaked the state House budget, that funding for Graduate Medical Education (GME) is excluded. North Country HealthCare has an accredited family residency program ready to recruit and start its first class. The residency program was initiated to address the primary care provider shortage in northern Arizona.
