Prenatal Care & Preconception Services

North Country HealthCare’s Flagstaff location offers prenatal care, the healthcare you receive while you are pregnant. There is also limited prenatal care available at our Grand Canyon location. We want to create healthier communities, one family at a time. We help our patients take care of themselves and their babies with early and regular prenatal care. We encourage you to call for an appointment as soon as you know you are pregnant. Our goal is to be supportive throughout your entire pregnancy and postpartum period, and to be a partner in making decisions along the way. We are committed to taking care of you and your baby with diligence and respect.

Preconception Care Before Pregnancy

Our efforts begin by providing preconception (before pregnancy) care. Pre-pregnancy consultations allow you to address concerns and health issues with a medical provider to ensure you are in the best possible health prior to becoming pregnant. Preconception care includes routine well woman exams; family planning/birth control; diet and exercise counseling; genetic counseling; and maintenance of chronic gynecological conditions.

Providers

Care is provided by highly skilled obstetrician/gynecologists, certified nurse midwives, and physician associates. The providers in our office function as a team, with an emphasis on working with our patients to make the best medical decisions for each individual. We have found this approach is beneficial to both the patient and the providers. Our providers deliver and provide care at Flagstaff Medical Center.

Prenatal Care Plan

Our obstetric team will help to develop an individualized prenatal care plan for each patient’s specific needs. Our providers practice evidence-based medicine and request your prenatal care plan include routine prenatal visits, labs, ultrasounds and postpartum visits. It may also include specific tests and ultrasounds and referrals to specialized providers. We also encourage our prenatal patients to receive dental care and have connection to behavioral health providers if needed. Dental screenings and behavioral health referrals are available in our office. As part of your prenatal care, you will have the opportunity to participate in optional programs both on and off site.

Optional Programs

Getting Started

Once you know that you are pregnant, you can call our office to schedule an appointment. Your first prenatal appointment will be around 8-12 weeks of pregnancy. Some patients will have an earlier consultation if they have specific needs, such as medication management in pregnancy or persistent nausea/vomiting.

Your First Prenatal Appointment

During this initial visit, you will have an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy and due date, then a nurse will review your medical history with you and explain what you can expect throughout your pregnancy. Finally, you will meet with a provider to discuss any concerns specific to you and your pregnancy.

Prenatal Appointments

When you receive prenatal care at North Country Healthcare, you can expect a typical prenatal schedule to look like this. Many pregnant patients need additional visits or monitoring and their schedule will be modified as needed.
