Code Blue: Flagstaff and Health Reform

The Flagstaff area has always had thousands of people who go without insurance because they're too poor to afford it, but earn too much to qualify for Medicaid.

But with recent job losses and health insurance gone with them, more people are now ending up in Flagstaff's emergency room with serious conditions. "There are people who have run out of insurance, who have lost their jobs, or their prescriptions are too expensive for them, so they've stopped taking them. So they're much sicker when they get here," said Sandra Espinoza, director of emergency and trauma services at FMC.
