Born on the Corner
Note: A quick note to say thank you to Pete Walka and North Country HealthCare's own Rachel Bonvillain for their efforts in helping community members!
On Adrian Santoyo's birth certificate, perhaps it should read place of birth: "Corner of Leroux Street and Elm Avenue, Flagstaff."
His speedy entry into the world started when his mother, Felicia Santoyo, awoke in her Ash Fork home on the morning of Nov. 19 feeling uneasy.
She was nine months pregnant and thought she should call her mom, Norma, and uncle, Norman, to drive her into Flagstaff to see her doctor.
By the time they hit the road, events took a turn.
"When I left Ash Fork, I had contractions," Santoyo said.
With an hour to go to get to Flagstaff Medical Center, Uncle Norman would count the increasing frequency of Santoyo's contractions. Santoyo remembered hitting every red light in Flagstaff on the way to the hospital...
