It is not just the unemployed who are going without health insurance
Lack of health insurance is common among those who work in small businesses. Three out of four Arizonans without health insurance have jobs. In Arizona, about 30% of the people who work in businesses with less than 50 employees are uninsured. Lack of insurance is associated with poorer health status because people are less likely to have a regular medical provider, and for a small business owner a sick employee can affect their bottom line.
At North Country HealthCare, an employer can purchase primary healthcare services for employees at a discounted price
The Healthy Business Program is designed to make it easier for people to see the doctor or dentist. The program works like a "gift card." The employer decides how much to contribute to an employee’s primary healthcare cost, which is then loaded on the employee’s Healthy Business card. North Country offers discounted fees as part of the program. When the employee visits North Country HealthCare, the gift card can be “swiped” on a credit card machine to help pay for the visit.
The employee still pays a share of the bill for each visit
In the Healthy Business Program, employees pay a share of the fee as a way of retaining some "ownership" of their healthcare. North Country HealthCare offers a discounted fee for the visit “right off the top” and the employee is expected to pay 25% of the discounted fee. The remaining 75% of the discounted fee can be paid with the Healthy Business card.
Example – for a routine physical exam
Standard fee: $140
Discounted fee: $105
Gift card pays 75% of discounted fee: $78.75
Participating employee’s responsibility: $26.25
The Healthy Business Program applies to primary care services at North Country HealthCare
* The Healthy Business card can only be used at North Country HealthCare.
* It can be used for primary care services such as physical exams, family planning, prenatal care, minor illnesses or flu, or chronic diseases such as diabetes or asthma.
* It can be used for dental services at North Country HealthCare (excluding lab fees).
* It can be used to purchase prescriptions at North Country’s on-site pharmacy.
* The program is NOT health insurance coverage, and it will not cover services outside of North Country’s clinic such as hospital care, ambulances, or specialists.
